Started out as a Byzantine, labyrinthian design that no one, not even myself at times, could figure out how to navigate (in large part due to the confusion surrounding how to schematize content). Once we broke through that problem, the designing part was easy. I chose to go with something ultra minimalist to give a very centered focus on the content. The rotating images at the top are a sort of objective correlative to what the Howler’s “central” theme is (which is one that can’t, by necessity, be described in words so well).

UPDATE: The design has just been updated. I felt that the previous one was almost too simple, and didn’t resolve certain UI issues (the bizarre location of certain links, the stylistically disjointed feel of some of the pages and especially the comments section, etc.). This new design also takes advantage of some ‘Web 2.0′ libraries (Prototype and Mootools) for some slick effects, like our new slideshow header.
